Business Affairs Project Manager - Retail Engagement & Marketing 

Job Summary

Apple’s Business Affairs team is part of Marcom, Apple’s Global Marketing Communications group. Marcom oversees all of Apple’s advertising and marketing to ensure the flawless development and execution of world-class communications. 

The Business Affairs team curates and secures rights clearances in connection with the marketing of Apps, Music, TV, Movies, Podcasts, Safari content, and other third party content in all Apple marketing communications worldwide. 

The Retail Engagement & Marketing (REM) team defines, makes and delivers programs, campaigns, initiatives, and experiences that help Apple Retail’s customers and teams discover, be inspired by, learn about, and go further with Apple’s products and services, and does so in a manner that is true to Apple values, legal policies, and requirements.

The BA Project Manager - Retail Engagement & Marketing works cross-functionally on the implementation of that third party content in Apple stores around the world, on apple.com, and in the Apple Store App. The role collaborates with teams across Apple, including the Geos, to achieve REM and Apple objectives. The ideal candidate has deep experience in creative production excellence, IP analysis, licensing, legal interfacing, cross functional partnerships, and problem solving.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 8-10 years experience in rights related positions within a marketing organization, in-house or creative agency environment, or entertainment industry.
  • Professional experience with and understanding of copyright, trademark, licensing, content creation and clearance, and marketing with emphasis on tech, retail, apps, music, film/TV, photography, illustration, and AI.
  • A solid understanding of intellectual property rights (a law degree is helpful but not required), ideally gained from experience working in a marketing, advertising and / or agency environment.
  • Success working in a creatively-driven organization.
  • Highly resourceful, proactive contributor who can work both independently and collaboratively. 
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and lead multiple projects reliably.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of personalities and styles to establish effective relationships across the organization.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, and comfortable navigating rapid change with poise and decorum in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
  • Dynamic and inquisitive problem solver who consistently seeks solutions through thoughtful questioning and in-depth analysis.
  • Ability to distill complex and nuanced information customized to the relevant audience
  • Strong diplomacy and influencing skills to manage and negotiate with internal stakeholders
  • Fluent and flexible working across a variety of content mediums and executions with hands-on experience in international marketing, music licensing, experiential marketing, video production, and commissions.
  • Exceptional organization and documentation skills

The BA Project Manager - REM:

  • Reviews marketing materials with internal teams to identify intellectual property (IP) issues, as well as rights, compliance, and cultural issues, and proposes the appropriate course of action.
  • As necessary, seeks and secures the appropriate content permissions/licenses with relevant rights holders for use in REM marketing, including licensing stock music tracks.
  • Leads the assessment of content through a lens of legal, brand, PR, and cultural sensitivities, while considering the impact on customer and employee privacy and experience, and retail store processes and logistics.
  • Facilitates communication between multiple internal partners globally, providing strategic content options to creative teams, and collaborating closely with Legal as needed.
  • Supports production, clearance, and usage of content created by REM, other Apple teams, or external entities, ensuring compliance with relevant guidelines.
  • Maintains detailed documentation and trackers around clearances, licenses, and decisions to Apple’s high standards.
  • Provides thoughtful analysis and guidance on contracts, intellectual property concerns, navigating and anticipating ambiguous areas in content creation and usage.
  • Maintains regular communication with all teams to ensure proper information flow, clear action items, and timely issue resolution.
  • Supports several projects at the same time
  • Advises, innovates, and inspires on process and tools implementation and improvement.
  • Provides production teams with general Business Affairs support pertaining to their projects.
  • Assists in initiating and managing risk-related conversations with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Advocates for the Business Affairs team role and how to interact with it.

  • Business Day Timings: 9 AM to 5 PM
