Job Summary
The Media Device Specialist works within the Marcom Production Operations group and is responsible for a number of tasks pertaining to the safe keeping and management of video files.
The Media Device Specialist works independently with the video producers, post producers and production crew to make daily decisions on best pathways for workflow and finding solutions for challenges that arise.
For production shoots utilizing client devices as a video camera, the Media Device Specialist will work in tandem with the Media Device Specialist team, acting as a media manager; offloading, transcoding, QC and delivery of video footage.
The Media Device Specialist will be responsible for interfacing and communicating directly and independently with varied stakeholders throughout Marcom.
Job Description
Tasks include offloading footage from camera cards and hard drives to servers and uploads to FrameIO. The Media Device Specialist also provides on-set video signal monitoring and routing to various stakeholders (VTR, DP, Video Village).
The Media Device Specialist will be required to make well informed decisions on the spot, and work at a high level in an ever changing environment. The Media Device Specialist will process a large amount of communications on various platforms with producers about offloads, transcodes, hard drives and logistics.
The Media Device Specialist will create a basic inventory and item-level metadata for the production hard drives and and other hardware assets. They will act as primary point of contact for international Secure Shipments.
This role will require working in tandem with many internal and external teams often in high pressure environments; where outstanding customer service is paramount.
- Prepare, encrypt, and ship hard drives.
- Offload video footage from hard drives or camera cards to storage.
- Transcode raw footage to project specifications for post teams.
- Review at a hotel with client creatives may occur after the completion of the shoot day.
- Create Fedex labels and shipping | includes taking them to Fedex locations
- Communicate to borrowers the expectations and rules of borrowing hard drives
- Coordinate the return of hard drives from post houses via producer
- Research & troubleshoot | new and older drives
- Maintain updated location and DRI for drives as they move through production/post
- Inventory | Proper spreadsheet with up to date drive specs
- Develop new Kiosk tools with internal teams - reporting, search, sorting, fields expansion
- Implement innovative asset management tools
- Keep onset equipment updated to latest OS and softwares - laptops, software
- Manage software license inventory and annual upgrades
- Submit IT tickets to install softwares on SAN systems
- Keep Quip docs updated with project notes, hard drive and maintain
- Airtag location management system workflow
- Maintain an update Cosmos pages related to team
- Keep our back room cabinets sorted and clean, track expiring JobJackets and corresponding archive cabinet drives
- Submit Secure Ship forms via portal and maintain comms for delivery of hard drives and hardware to international locations
- Coordinate with producers to acquire necessary information and communicate expectations around receipt and return of drives from international locations
Key Qualifications
Successful candidates will be effective at managing change, highlighted by strong problem-solving skills, exceptional organization and communication skills, be resourceful and self-starting. They will demonstrate an ability to work in a collaborative team environment, while also being able to work alone and make unilateral decisions when the need arises.
- Have a minimum 3-5 years of experience working with video footage in the production/post production field or equivalent.
- Has strong background in transcoding video footage in various formats, and have experience with Davinci Resolve, Compressor.
- Has worked as a film/digital loader, camera assistant or equivalent role.
- Has experience working as a data wrangler on video production sets, able to manage terabytes of data through offload, backup, and delivery without any media loss and/or corruption.
- Provide and maintain an archive of production primary and backup drives.
- Perform offloading, transcoding, QC and delivery of video footage.
- Has worked as assistant editor, editor, or professional post production company.
- Has the ability to troubleshoot under pressure while on production shoot or in house.
- Be able to speak fluently the language of video and communicate complex concepts to non-technical people.
- Work closely with producers and post production departments to ensure standards and workflow are met for every project.
- Must be able to train quickly, follow procedures to the letter and exhibit the self directed task management skills necessary to meet or exceed productivity requirements.
- May be required to travel domestically, and occasionally internationally, for shoots.
- Ability to work at least 8 hrs a day, onsite 5 days a week from the main office.
- Ability to work different shifts and schedules to support production shoots (weekend, swing and/or graveyard on occasion).
- Overtime hours may be required depending on project, with little or zero notice.
- Independently contribute to the development and improvement of documented protocol, processes, and procedures.
- Must have valid passport with expiration date minimum of two years from hire date.
- Must have access to reliable transport in the Bay Area to be able to respond to varied and changing production needs.
- Ability to lift 45 pounds, to load and unload equipment needed for production.
Education
Bachelors Degree in Film/Video or equivalent preferred.
