Job Description
Video Accessibility Writers work within the client's Marketing and Communications Video Accessibility team. This team's primary focus is making customer-facing marketing content accessible; this includes product videos, how-tos, shot-on-device demo content, and more. Long-form content such as product launches and keynote addresses are also core responsibilities, as well as varied internal content such as meetings and training videos. Writers should be flexible and able to adapt to necessary styles, workflows, and schedules.
This role works closely with other post-production teams as well as video producers, video delivery managers, and other accessibility stakeholders. Within the Video Accessibility team, writers will also be expected to apply their subject-matter expertise to a number of projects including (but not limited to) assisting with project management, training new team members, developing training documentation, etc.
Key Qualifications
- Professional knowledge and experience with video accessibility workflows for closed captioning, audio description, and accessibility transcripts
- Act as a subject matter expert and mentor in video accessibility conversations
- Superior research skills and professional knowledge of the Apple ecosystem and devices
- Demonstrated professional expertise in the English language, including grammar and composition.
- Superior attention to detail when writing and copyediting to follow Apple style
- Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask, work cross-functionally, and prioritize deadlines
- Experience and competency in driving projects to completion
- Superior communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to act as mentor to junior team members while accepting and providing feedback
- When necessary, represent the Video Accessibility team in strategic meetings and comms
- Flexible schedule to accommodate varied production demands
- Ability to quickly learn and utilize new software and apps to drive team performance and efficiency
Additional Skills
- Knowledge of audio editing software and workflows
- Experience with video compression, post-production workflows, and AV specs
- Professional working knowledge of web accessibility principles
- Experience with education and/or training is useful but not required
- Voiceover experience is useful but not required
Description
- Work with team of vendors and Apple employees to provide audio description, closed captioning, and accessibility transcripts for various video content
- Adhere to style guides, established workflows, and quality assurance procedures
- Assist with development of new training materials, workflows, and documents as time allows
- Act as subject-matter expert to assist in training of new team members
- Coordinate with video producers, web administrators, editors, and accessibility stakeholders
- Assist Captioning and Audio Description team leads in project management as needed
- Remain current with new digital video and audio technologies
Education and Experience
- 10+ years of video accessibility or writing experience required
- Bachelor's or equivalent degree preferred
