Digital Artist, Shading Technical Director
Job Summary
In this role, you will work as part of a 3D asset creation team to create production-ready shaded models that will be used for ideation and visualization purposes (both still and animation) of all Apple’s products. The 3D assets are constructed to hold up for a variety of deliverables, from billboards to keynotes, and must be built with a very high attention to detail and product accuracy.
In your day-to-day, you will work with the 3D Asset Manager and producer team, assisting in tasks that help make best-in-class 3D assets.
Key Qualifications
- You have 10+ years of experience in a 3D computer graphics production environment.
- Mastery of both Maya and Nuke.
- Expert knowledge of shader networks in Maya.
- Ability to execute a multitude of real-world materials and construct them in a way with artist usability in mind.
- A deep understanding of Vray or an equivalent render package.
- Excellent working knowledge of Substance, Mari, and Photoshop.
- Ability to create textures based on photo references and other sources.
- Excellent communication skills when working with other 3D artists in a pipeline environment. You will need to take notes from creatives and industrial designers and communicate needs for 3D assets to teammates in the modeling and rigging departments.
- Ability to work in a dynamic and constantly evolving set of requirements - able to stay organized and self-motivated with little oversight. You should be able to adapt and learn in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Outstanding attention to the smallest detail and a passion for exceptional quality and the pursuit of artistic excellence.
- Self-motivated and experience with Zbrush, Cinema4D, and Houdini is a plus.
- Experienced in MEL and Python scripting is a plus.
Description
- As a Shading Technical Director, you will be part of a team of 3D/CG artists working on a variety of product visualization across various media channels.
- You have a proven ability in your portfolio and have previously worked in similar workflows for a VFX studio or agency.
- You must be deadline-driven and possess excellent problem-solving, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Be a proactive and independent artist, able to adapt to ever-changing situations with creativity and innovation and work in ambiguity while still delivering results on time.

BA/BS degree or equivalent practical experience
