The Packaging Design Producer role lives within Marcom’s Design team, and plays a central part in upholding these values and driving innovation and creativity though our design work. This role provides day to day management of the creative development and implementation of product packaging and associated materials. The Design Producer works closely with key stakeholders across Marcom, Product Marketing, Human Interface and Industrial Design.
Description
This role is design-led and will focus on delivering best in class work for specific product launches. Responsibilities include partnering closely with the Marcom design team to determine the creative expression for Apple’s product packaging. This includes but is not limited to photography, copy and graphics on product packaging and any associated collateral pieces and product identities/logos. Preferred past experience working through the full design journey from project inception through to file delivery. While helpful, this role does not require a strong understanding or focus on operations or packaging supply chain details. It requires a thorough understanding of the design process and the ability to form strong partnerships and build relationships with key decision makers along the project lifecycle.
A successful Design Producer must be able to simultaneously manage several projects with various timelines and multiple collaborators. The ideal candidate has an eye and passion for design with a strong attention to detail. You are adaptable and can provide effective support across a variety of categories with varying complexities and considerations — You prioritize and work on multiple highly detailed projects at the same time. You must be resourceful, adaptable, creative, and results oriented with high energy and a positive attitude.
The Packaging Design Producer’s day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Managing creative development, organizing presentations, managing approval processes and schedules. The position works closely with other teams within Marcom (including Creative, Editing, Production and Studio) and groups outside of Marcom.
- Work cross-functionally with other internal groups at Apple to create product packaging and ensure creative objectives are well defined and appropriately implemented.
- Ability to facilitate creative execution, to manage the approval process across multiple partners, and to ensure they are appropriately reflected within the on-package and in-box communications.
- Aligning with Strategy, Brand and Production partners to create end-to-end timing plans that deliver against the business need.
- Set up kick-off and reviews with cross-functional partners and collaborate with others toward the project plan including the key dates, prioritization and the strategy around creative solutions.
- Maintain and distribute weekly priorities to team members and partners.
- Collecting assets and information for the creative team, ensuring they are set-up for success in their explorations.
- Scheduling shares, distilling feedback, distributing meeting notes and driving the team toward creative lock — always working one step ahead.
- Understand the legal, regulatory, environmental, and manufacturing constraints related to each category of products and partner with your designer to implement as needed.
- Forecasting creative resource needs and actively managing project resources in planning tools; working closely with your Manager to make recommendations for project-level staffing based on project needs and creatives’ bandwidth.
- Problem-solving obstacles that create inefficiencies and making recommendations for new ways of working.
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of design producer or creative project management experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience producing or overseeing Packaging Design projects.
- Well-versed in leading the creative development process with strong project management skills as part of a creative team.
- Ability to drive workflows, creative shares and schedules across multiple partners and departments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to learn quickly to adapt and get results through projects.
- Excellent presentation skills, and comfortable in presenting work to C-suite leaders.
- Extremely detail oriented with extraordinary follow-through skills and the ability to manage up.
- You care deeply about packaging, the customer experience, details and design. You have appreciation for quality, can communicate clearly, and have patience for the process—both as it relates to details and design.
- Cut through ambiguity to find an aligned path forward despite uncertainty.
- See around corners to ensure awareness of bigger problems and opportunities ahead — with strong ability to flex and work in an often ambiguous environment.
- Approach problems flexibly and with a willingness to adapt and pivot in order to arrive at the best solution.
- General knowledge of print production process.
