Summary

We are looking for an experienced and solutions-oriented Business Affairs Clearances and Licensing specialist to support our Original Content Marketing team. As a front-line reviewer of marketing materials, you operate with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail, and are skillful at prioritizing multiple projects in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You are confident in solving complex problems, defining workflows, and executing next steps. You also thrive on collaborating and building productive relationships, using your emotional intelligence to determine the right way to engage partners within a highly matrixed organization.

Key Qualifications

  • Minimum 7-10 years entertainment industry experience on a Business Affairs, Marketing/Creative Services, licensing, or clearances team within a motion picture studio, television network, agency, or SVOD provider.
  • Demonstrated understanding with the area and marketing application of talent agreements, rights licensing, copyright and trademark law, guild regulations, public domain, fair use, defamation, right of publicity, children’s CARU guidelines, consumer protection and disclosures, and marketing production.
  • Extensive experience negotiating rights, advising on risk, and developing processes regarding contracts and licenses.
  • Expertise on talent likeness requirements, ties and restrictions as they pertain to film, television, and SVOD marketing.
  • Experience working with International Marketing and Legal teams around issues related to international marketing regulations and cultural sensitivities.
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting complex licensing and talent agreements, and effectively communication those rights in a clear and concise manner to cross-functional marketing teams.
  • Experience handling marketing submissions to the MPA and guilds, along with knowledge of applicable SAG, WGA, and DGA rules.
  • In-depth knowledge of our products and services, along with an understanding of our brand.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization, and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively interact with a diverse range of personalities and styles to establish effective relationships across the organization. 

Description

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Original Content Marketing teams by reviewing marketing materials, identifying rights and compliance issues, trafficking assets, facilitating communication between multiple stakeholders internally (Marketing, Awards, Programming, Distribution, Legal, Business Affairs, PR, Operations) and externally (studios, production companies, filmmakers, talent agents and lawyers, unions/guilds, outside counsel), providing strategic options to internal teams, and licensing content with relevant rights holders for marketing use.
  • Conduct copyright and trademark research and facilitate clearance requests.
  • Traffic assets to DGA, WGA, MPA and International Geo BA teams, analyze and provide feedback to marketing teams in a timely manner.
  • Advise and partner with Legal and Geo teams (as needed) to asses risk in terms of legal and brand concerns.
  • Negotiate licenses and permissions with copyright owners of various media.
  • Review all marketing legal documentation to identify any info that is unclear, missing or incorrect and coordinate with appropriate stakeholders on updating documentation.
  • Responsible for maintaining detailed documentation and trackers around clearances and licenses at high standards.
  • Contribute to the development of BA processes, procedures, and standardization that scale across a rapidly evolving business.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience required. Paralegal, JD, or MBA a plus.
